Integrity

Integrity is so important to the firefighting profession. I would define Integrity as staying true to who you are, no matter the scenario you are put in. I played basketball for three years at Idaho State University. My sophomore year I used a redshirt year, meaning I did not play in any games, but I participated in every lift, meeting, and basketball workout we did as a team. Most redshirts stay in the background and go about their work quietly, I stayed true to who I am and was an important vocal leader on the team even though I wasn’t playing. I would lead conversations at times in film sessions, communicate with our star players often about how we could be better, and of course I worked my hardest to compete and push every other player during practice. At the end of the year I was rewarded with the Most Inspirational Player award. It was a fantastic feeling and it is a year I am forever grateful for as it taught me many lessons.
